Getting Started
How do I open a Slate account?
Download the Slate app, enter your email or phone number, and complete a brief identity verification. Most accounts are approved in under five minutes.
Who can sign up?
Anyone aged 18 or over who resides in a supported country. Check the Supported Countries page for the latest list.
What do I need to verify my identity?
A government-issued photo ID (passport, national ID, or driver's license) and a short selfie. We use licensed KYC partners to process verification securely.
How do I fund my account for the first time?
You can fund via bank transfer (SEPA or ACH), an inbound stablecoin deposit, or a card top-up once your account is verified.
Accounts & Currencies
What currencies can I hold?
You can hold US Dollars, Euros, and British Pounds, plus regulated stablecoins including USDC, USDT, and EURC.
Do I get account details for each currency?
Yes. Each currency comes with its own virtual account — a USD account with routing and account numbers, a EUR account with an IBAN, and a GBP account with UK sort code and account number.
How do I convert between currencies?
Open the swap screen, pick a source and destination currency, and confirm. We use wholesale FX rates with no hidden markups.
Are there any balance limits?
Standard accounts have generous daily and monthly limits. Larger balances may require additional verification — contact support if you need higher limits.
Cards & Spending
Do I get a physical or virtual card?
Both. A virtual card is issued instantly and works with Apple Pay and Google Pay. You can order a physical card at any time with worldwide shipping.
Where can I spend my card?
Anywhere Visa is accepted — online, in-store, and on the go in over 130 countries.
Which currency does my card spend from?
Your card spends directly from your selected balance (USD, EUR, or GBP). No forced conversion, no hidden FX.
How do I freeze or replace my card?
Tap the card in the app to freeze or unfreeze it instantly. You can also report it lost and request a replacement in a few taps.
Payments & Transfers
How long do transfers take?
SEPA Instant and stablecoin transfers settle in seconds. Standard SEPA and ACH typically clear within one business day.
Are there transfer fees?
Slate-to-Slate transfers are free. Inbound SEPA, ACH, and stablecoin deposits are free. Outbound transfers may incur a small network fee, clearly shown before you confirm.
Can I send money to someone who doesn't use Slate?
Yes. Send via SEPA, ACH, or stablecoin rails to any compatible destination worldwide.
A transfer hasn't arrived — what should I do?
Most transfers settle within minutes to a business day. If yours hasn't arrived after 24 hours, contact support with the transfer reference.
Earnings & Yield
How does yield work?
Enable yield on any supported currency and your balance starts earning automatically. Interest accrues every second and auto-compounds, so you see your balance grow in real time.
What rates can I expect?
Yield rates are variable and depend on the currency and underlying instruments. Current rates are always shown in the app before you opt in.
Can I withdraw while earning yield?
Yes. There are no lock-ups. You can move funds in and out of yield at any time without penalties.
Is yield taxable?
Tax treatment varies by country. Slate provides statements you can share with your accountant, but we can't give tax advice — check with a local professional.
Security & Custody
Who actually controls my money?
You do. Slate is built around self-custody — your keys, your funds. Only you can authorize moves from your account.
How do I sign in?
Slate uses passkey and biometric authentication. There are no passwords to remember or leak.
What if I lose my phone?
You can recover your account on a new device using your passkey backup and identity verification. Contact support if you run into any issues.
Is Slate regulated?
Banking, custody, and on/off-ramp services are provided by licensed partners. Slate is a financial technology company, not a bank — see our footer disclaimer for full details.
